The shirts have begun to appear!

I have been getting reports all week that they have begun to arrive. Late in the week my doorstep was graced with a package from TeeFury containing my shirts! Let me say first and foremost I am REALLY happy with the quality and fidelity of the print. I tip my hat to TeeFury for an excellent job. Enough talking... let's see some shirts...

Men and women shirts shown for color and size comparison.

Slate for the boys.

Baby blue for girls. My wife insists that her's is better since the graphic was printed larger on girl shirts.

A close up of the bug in his cleaver disguise.

And finally the finish product being modeled.

Thanks again to everyone that bought one, two or even three of the shirts. I hope they arrive soon and you enjoy them!

That is all for another week. Illuxcon is a week and a half away and looms heavy on my thoughts. So much to do to get ready. I will be back next week with more exciting posts! Until then...

Fresh from the drawing table... Jackalwere!

I have for you today another drawing that is fresh from the drawing table. This time around it is a Jackalwere! "J" provided very few options, though not as few a some of the letter to come (I am looking at you, "Q"). With my other choices being a mundane jackal or jaguar it was an easy decision in the end to go with the creepy shape shifter. I present to you my version of a Jackalwere...

Jackalwere
© 2010 Christopher Burdett

Unlike other lycanthropes the Jacklewere is a animal monster that can turn into a human and not a human afflicted with a curse that turns them into an animal monster. Much like the Kitsune this human guise is used to trick humans. I imagined it waits till the perfect moment to transform and strike. Your average Jackalwere must go through so many pairs of paints...

My first 100 original Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual redesigns (A - Z): Aerial Servant, Ankheg, Ant (Giant), Ape (Carnivorous), Ape (Gorilla), Axe Beak, Axe Beak (version 2), Baboon, Badger, Barracuda, Basilisk, Baluchitherium, Bear (Black), Bear (Brown), Bear (Cave), Beaver (Giant), Beetle (Giant) - Bombardier, Beetle (Giant) - Boring, Beetle (Giant) - Fire, Beetle (Giant) - Rhinoceros, Beetle (Giant) - Stag, Beetle (Giant) - Water, Beholder, Black Pudding, Blink Dog, Boar (Giant), Boar (Warthog), Boar (Wild), Brain Mole, Brownie, Bugbear, Buffalo, Bulette, Carrion Crawler, Catoblepas, Cerebral Parasite, Chimera, Cockatrice, Coutal, Crab (Giant), Demon Type III (Glabrezu), Demon (Juiblex), Demon (Manes), Devil (Ice), Dragon (Red), Elemental (Earth), Ettin, Eye of the Deep, Flightless Bird, Frog (Giant), Fungi (Violet), Giant (Hill), Goblin, Golem (Flesh), Hobgoblin, Homunculus, Hydra, Imp, Intellect Devourer, Ixitxachitl, Jackal, Jacklewere, Jaguar, Ki-Rin, Kobold, Lich, Lizard (Giant), Lizardman, Manticore, Mind Flayer, Minotaur, Naga, Neo-Otygugh, Nixie, Ochre Jelly, Ogre, Owlbear, Peryton, Pixie, Purple Worm, Quasit, Ram (Giant), Roper, Rust Monster, Sahuagin, Salamander, Shambling Mound, Treant, Troglodyte, Troll, Umber Hulk, Unicorn, Vampire, Wasp (Giant), Wight, Wyvern, Xorn, Yeti, and Zombie.

That's all for today. Hopefully the tracking confirmation holds true and I will have something fun to share with you on Friday! Until then...

My life as a crappy artist - Frotor Demon

You of course remember the Frotor Demon from episode 14, Release, from season 4 of Angel, right? Any good Angel fan would, right? I barely recall this demon and I designed it. So that everyone is on the same page, this is the Frotor Demon...

RAWR! I'm the Frotor Demon and I couldn't be bothered to open my eyes for this photo! We see the Frotor Demon here in it's natural environment, in the shadows of a sound stage. This photo does lead to the question of why do demons wear human clothes? Not to blend in surely...

I decided it was time to take back another of the the demons that I designed while working on the Joss Whedon opuses. This time around I went for the peely fish hook headed rhino nosed demon simply called Frotor. Time to get the hard part out of the way... here is my original design for the Frotor Demon from 2003...

Oh well... at least I think I have gotten better. Yet again I somehow thought a solid box of value behind it's head would make it better...
© 2003 Almost Human

The whole idea behind this guy is that he was going to have his head slammed into a bar top to 'jar his memory' and get much needed info to move the plot of the story along. This required a lot of padding in the makeup to allow for some realistic impacts with the actor. It also meant that one of his horns needed to be gone so that he can hit with the side of head and still talk. Beyond all that we had full reign and the above design was all I could come up with. With the original design as a starting point I reworked it and came up with something... newer...

Taking the Frotor Demon back!
© 2010 Christopher Burdett

This time around he ended up a lot more beefy. But beefy allows for padding and allows for good impacts... right? Not sure if this is a better design, I think it is a better drawing at least. I am happier with it and that is all that matters. Hopefully the horn appears to move forward in the new design since I was unable to convey that the horn was moving forward and not straight out the side of the head in the original. Another fun exercise!

I will leave you with another photo of the Frotor Demon. You might notice the paint on his face and neck are peeling and flaking. Funny story about that... but it will have to wait for another time. If you run into me, feel free to ask me about it...

RAWR! I am the demon that peels! ...and won't open my eyes for the photos even though I asked nicely...

Another start to an exciting week. Lots going on and lots about to happen! Illuxcon is right around the corner and new projects are being released as we speak. Stay tuned, lot to share with you in the coming weeks! Until then...

Videocon

Videocon was last night and it was a blast! A big thanks to everyone at the Brogan Museum for having me out and for being so gracious and accommodating. A lot of people turned out for the bands, videogames and art... and a few came to see me! On with the pictures...

I will try to ensure that this is my last known photo... Also, don't mind the large blurry mass, all will become clear soon enough. Look at all those classic video games back in the distance, they sure look fun!

A better view of my set up. I got my banner finally sorted out just in time for Videocon! Hopefully my name is not too small on it... The Brogan also supplied a small stand sign as well for the event. It became my proof that I in fact had worked on Dungeons and Dragons.

Canvas prints and video games... two great things that go better together! And do I see copies of my sketchbook available?

A sticky relic from my past in LA. It is amazing that this thing has held up since season 7 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Thought it would be fun to dig out and share.

A better look at the front and back covers of my sketchbook creatura libri.

An original sketch on the inside of one of the sketchbooks that went to a happy home. I will have copies of creatura libri at Illuxcon next month, be sure to come by the showcase event Friday night and Saturday morning to get a copy!

Two of the classic games that I am actually still good at. The cabinet art on these machines is gorgeous. Half the fun of these old games is to seeing the great art that adorns them.

Yeah, I totally shot the food.

Again, thanks to everybody at the Brogan and to all that attended Videocon last night. I think a lot of fun was had by all!

That is all for a very packed week. See you back here on Monday! Until then...

Fresh from the drawing table... Imp!

I have for you today another drawing that is fresh from the drawing table. This time around it is an Imp! "I" didn't have a lot of options, but the Imp was clearly the obvious choice. Hard to go wrong with creepy little demon creatures. The Intellect Devourer was also very enticing, but there is always the fear of copyright infringement. Once again sticking with my first choice, I present to you my version of a Imp...

Imp
© 2010 Christopher Burdett

When it is not the familiar for a powerful wizard the Imp can be seen wringing it's hangs and skulking... two of it's favorite pastimes. I tried to incorporate a medieval demon feel to the Imp while still staying true to my own style. Not sure how well I pulled it off, but my wife certainly likes this one.

My first 100 original Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual redesigns (A - Z): Aerial Servant, Ankheg, Ant (Giant), Ape (Carnivorous), Ape (Gorilla), Axe Beak, Axe Beak (version 2), Baboon, Badger, Barracuda, Basilisk, Baluchitherium, Bear (Black), Bear (Brown), Bear (Cave), Beaver (Giant), Beetle (Giant) - Bombardier, Beetle (Giant) - Boring, Beetle (Giant) - Fire, Beetle (Giant) - Rhinoceros, Beetle (Giant) - Stag, Beetle (Giant) - Water, Beholder, Black Pudding, Blink Dog, Boar (Giant), Boar (Warthog), Boar (Wild), Brain Mole, Brownie, Bugbear, Buffalo, Bulette, Carrion Crawler, Catoblepas, Cerebral Parasite, Chimera, Cockatrice, Coutal, Crab (Giant), Demon Type III (Glabrezu), Demon (Juiblex), Demon (Manes), Devil (Ice), Dragon (Red), Elemental (Earth), Ettin, Eye of the Deep, Flightless Bird, Frog (Giant), Fungi (Violet), Giant (Hill), Goblin, Golem (Flesh), Hobgoblin, Homunculus, Hydra, Imp, Intellect Devourer, Ixitxachitl, Jackal, Jacklewere, Jaguar, Ki-Rin, Kobold, Lich, Lizard (Giant), Lizardman, Manticore, Mind Flayer, Minotaur, Naga, Neo-Otygugh, Nixie, Ochre Jelly, Ogre, Owlbear, Peryton, Pixie, Purple Worm, Quasit, Ram (Giant), Roper, Rust Monster, Sahuagin, Salamander, Shambling Mound, Treant, Troglodyte, Troll, Umber Hulk, Unicorn, Vampire, Wasp (Giant), Wight, Wyvern, Xorn, Yeti, and Zombie.

See you back here on Friday when I should have loads of photos from Videocon to share! If you make it out the the event you might even be in some of them! Until then...

What's in the box?!

A strange big box showed up at the house recently... what could it be? Let's have a look at what surprises it might contain!

To quote Brad Pitt, "WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!?!?"

It appears to be wrapped in plastic and other protective semitransparent sheets...

Safely removed from the box... Heavier than it looks...

It is a stack of books! ...and my name is on it! Oh look, the Deep One appears to be printed at it's original size on the wraparound cover.

It appears to be full of black and white pencil drawings!

32 pages in all with over 50 drawings of creatures, monsters and things with tentacles!

I will have some copies of creatura libri available Thursday night at Videocon. The rest are going with my to Illuxcon in November. For those unable to make it to these events I will see about making them more accessible soon. Besides having 32 pages featuring over 50 of my monster drawings there is space available for a personalized original sketch!

Be one of the first to own on! See you at Videocon and Illuxcon!

That is all for today. Hopefully something new later in the week as well as coverage of Videocon! Until then...

Fresh from the drawing table... Hydra!

First, I would like to thank everyone that purchased my shirt on Wednesday! I didn't know what to expect for my first shirt sale and it was all very exciting. Hopefully there will be more in the future!

I have for you today another drawing that is fresh from the drawing table. This time around it is a Hydra! It seemed like the obvious pick when I got to "H", but I do need to keep an open mind when it comes to picking monsters to draw. In the end I stuck with the the first choice, so I present to you my version of a Hydra...

Is it a plant? Is it an animal? Is it some horrible combination? Who knows, all I know it is growing heads like there is no tomorrow. Cut off one and there are two more waiting. It drags it's huge coiled mass around eating and growing new heads. Maybe fire will work on it?

My first 100 original Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual redesigns (A - Z): Aerial Servant, Ankheg, Ant (Giant), Ape (Carnivorous), Ape (Gorilla), Axe Beak, Axe Beak (version 2), Baboon, Badger, Barracuda, Basilisk, Baluchitherium, Bear (Black), Bear (Brown), Bear (Cave), Beaver (Giant), Beetle (Giant) - Bombardier, Beetle (Giant) - Boring, Beetle (Giant) - Fire, Beetle (Giant) - Rhinoceros, Beetle (Giant) - Stag, Beetle (Giant) - Water, Beholder, Black Pudding, Blink Dog, Boar (Giant), Boar (Warthog), Boar (Wild), Brain Mole, Brownie, Bugbear, Buffalo, Bulette, Carrion Crawler, Catoblepas, Cerebral Parasite, Chimera, Cockatrice, Coutal, Crab (Giant), Demon Type III (Glabrezu), Demon (Juiblex), Demon (Manes), Devil (Ice), Dragon (Red), Elemental (Earth), Ettin, Eye of the Deep, Flightless Bird, Frog (Giant), Fungi (Violet), Giant (Hill), Goblin, Golem (Flesh), Hobgoblin, Homunculus, Hydra, Imp, Intellect Devourer, Ixitxachitl, Jackal, Jacklewere, Jaguar, Ki-Rin, Kobold, Lich, Lizard (Giant), Lizardman, Manticore, Mind Flayer, Minotaur, Naga, Neo-Otygugh, Nixie, Ochre Jelly, Ogre, Owlbear, Peryton, Pixie, Purple Worm, Quasit, Ram (Giant), Roper, Rust Monster, Sahuagin, Salamander, Shambling Mound, Treant, Troglodyte, Troll, Umber Hulk, Unicorn, Vampire, Wasp (Giant), Wight, Wyvern, Xorn, Yeti, and Zombie.
